Week 2| Spring One Room Challenge 2022

First paint color revealed & did you see those counters?

This week was all about a jump start! Since the bathroom was the new addition to the project scope for this go-round, we decided to get a jump on it and attempt to get most of the major elements in the bathroom checked off the list. And guess what? We did it! Before I give you a breakdown on what we accomplished, and a few anticipated sources, let’s glance back to where we started, shall we?

Upgrade in progress!

So what did we accomplish in Week 1 of the One Room Challenge?

  • Demo’d counter and tile backsplash

  • Removed sink and unhooked the hardware and water

  • Removed the cabinet drawers and doors

  • Painted cabinet, doors & drawers with Kinsser primer then Valspar Cabinet Enamel using (drumroll…) my new favorite blue ARCHIPELAGO BLUE by Sherwin Williams

  • Installed new butcher block counters

  • Installed butcher block floating desk in the library space

  • Installed pine bead board in the bathroom vanity area

  • Sourced the trim pieces to finish off the bead board ledge

  • Installed the new cabinet hardware which I LOOOOVE

  • New faucet and light fixture arrived! (Don’t worry, I will share these in future posts!)

Paint Reveal: Archipelago Blue by Sherwin Williams (HGSW3311)

We were going to go with our typical Sherwin Williams paint, in the cabinet enamel; however, we were convinced by the nice gal at the paint counter to try Valspar. So we color matched the Archipelago in that paint in order to see what product we like better for an upcoming product. Do you have a favorite paint brand? Although I am open to testing different paint enamels, I may be hard to convince that another brand has a better range of colors than SW. Interesting note about the image on the right (above): two of my favorite blue hues are represented here. My ultimate favorite navy is Sea Serpent (our guest room is painted this color) and it can be easily paired with so many colors as it has a true gray base. Now the Archipelago is coming in as a close second. Donovon did a great job picking this color! Another blue we have in an adjacent space is Loyal Blue by Sherwin Williams (a brighter blue). That is the blue we used in Tessa’s room right next door as an accent color on her doors. And to think…blue is suddenly reappearing in trending design. What is your go-to blue?

The Door handles we selected for a Modern Traditional Look

Drawer and Cabinet Handles from Lowes

Modern Traditional handles by Brainerd offered at Lowes was the perfect touch to keep the overall traditional aesthetic but with a modern, handsome twist. We decided against pulls and went with handles to marry both form and function with this cabinet.

Stay tuned to our Instagram page @GreyDomain to follow our Week 2 progress in stories and posts. We will reveal more resources next week and plan to install our sink, new faucet and stain and seal the counters this week…along with a few other surprises! See you there!
